about JDEdwards
J.D. Edwards was a software company founded in March 1997 in Denver, Colorado by John Thompson, Dan Gregory and Ed McVaney.
The company made its name building accounting software for IBM minicomputers, beginning with the System/34 and /36, focusing
from the mid 1980s on System/38 minicomputers, switching to the AS/400 when it became available.
J.D. Edwards gradually added functions to its accounting software, evolving it into a platform-independent ERP called
OneWorld in 1996.
In June 2003, J.D. Edwards board of directors accepted an acquisition offer by PeopleSoft. OneWorld was added to
PeopleSoft’s portfolio being renamed to EnterpriseOne.
By the end of 2004, Oracle bought PeopleSoft and continued to support products created by J.D. Edwards.
Oracle remained committed to the future of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and continued to sell it across the world.
We could see the largest improvement of products, including the release of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne version 8.12 in 2006.
JD Edwards World users have been ensured that the support to the product will continue to be offered, at least,
up to 2013, giving clients enough time for planning and evolution.
After PeopleSoft’s acquisition along with its 3 ERP products, Oracle announced its Fusion project. Oracle Fusion
is the company’s view of the next generation of products and applications that will start a business revolution.
Its main point is to protect clients’ investments as well as to enhance and evolve the best functionalities of
each and every product (JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and Oracle).
